MANVILLE: Kim, you only think about yourself, you are not my main problem.
KIM: You are afraid that Duarte will know about relationship...
MANVILLE: I don’t care. Us? I chose you because yours flat is nearest to restaurant from all stuff. Kim, be realistic.

    MANVILLE: Bruno, what’s the problem?
BRUNO: Alan refuses to help me in boucher craft.
ALAN: I’m tournant, it doesn’t meant that I have to do all your work.
    MANVILLE: Bruno?
    BRUNO: He needs experience.
ALAN: I’m pacifist, I won’t kill animals for you.
MANVILLE: We buy meat and fish on market. But I heard you, since tomorrow you are fired.
    BRUNO: I didn’t mean.
MANVILLE: Bruno, you wanted my decision?
    BRUNO: Yes, chef.
ALAN: Chef, no, please. I would kill any animal for you, human, no matter. It’s best job that I had.

MANVILLE: Valerie, I know that most of tips are on your account.
    JESSICA: What?
MANVILLE: It’s problem of Duarte. Rene, what I said to you?
    RENE: A lot, chef.
MANVILLE: You fours, listen to me carefully. You have only one aim in your life, you understand.
    HOLLY: Never disturb you.
MANVILLE: Nice try, Holly. Talk with clients, listen to clients and never, never again call me to French speaking clients. Is that clear, Rene?
    RENE: Monsieur, oui.

    RENE: Manville. He is dead.
DUARTE: !Al diablo! !Dios nos libre!
    RENE: Absolutely cold, in freezer.

    Blackout.

    Scene 13.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

Enter police officers: Zorina Dixon and Fabian Winkler.

    DUARTE: Did you saw him?
ZORINA: It’s a murder, we noticed. Could you keep refrigerator closed until our experts will come?
DUARTE: Of course. Today is day off. It doesn’t change our plans.
FABIAN: Why on day off all people are at work?
DUARTE: It was idea of Manville. He organized such meeting to talk with everyone.
ZORINA: Were you the first person who entered in restaurant today?
    DUARTE: No. It was Manville.
FABIAN: You are manager and owner.
DUARTE: It was his idea to gather all us here.
    ZORINA: Victim’s idea.
    DUARTE: Yes.
    ZORINA: Why?
DUARTE: Not a clue. All have to came early.
FABIAN: Could you predict why he did it?
DUARTE: To have enough free time to be killed, officer.
FABIAN: For you it’s reason for jokes.
DUARTE: For me it’s reason of big headache.
    ZORINA: Why?
DUARTE: Chef de cuisine is dead.
FABIAN: It will be bad for story of restaurant.
DUARTE: Doubtful, I worked in place where homicidal maniac murdered his first victim. It brought more curious clients. I need a new person on kitchen. That’s unsolved problem.
ZORINA: We will need all information about your business for investigation.
DUARTE: I’ll tell you all about restaurant. But answer me, officers, how knowledge of that I could have 100 guests on 25 tables helps you to find out who stubbed my chef?
FABIAN: Competition in your business is strong.
DUARTE: Not such awful that we have to kill everyone. People want to eat, officer...
    FABIAN: Winkler, Fabian Winkler.
DUARTE: Yes, officer Winkler. People want to eat and our business will live forever.
FABIAN: But in such time, when everyone wants to make dinner at home. It’s cheaper and you could try your own abilities.
ZORINA: Not everyone, Winkler. I even haven’t a coffee machine at home.
FABIAN: I know. Believe me, cuisine will change you life at once.
DUARTE: True words. But not everyone who tried succeed, so they return to my restaurant. Or another one, if be honest with you.
FABIAN: Someone was interested in victim’s receipts.
DUARTE: You watch a lot of TV, officer. Only in film someone will kill for family receipts. Cook, as artist, know what to do. Even if you repeat all what did another cook, important is your personal judgement, not someone else experience.
ZORINA: And if someone will steal cook book?
DUARTE: Good cook won’t commit suicide, s/he starts to create new, because s/he knew what to do and make it as many times as necessary.
FABIAN: Maybe Messier Petit has some interests not connected with his work as cook.
DUARTE: Messier Petit has a library at home, which is collection of different editions in all possible languages of “A guide to modern cookery by A.Escoffier.” He hasn’t interests outside kitchen, officer.
ZORINA: Why you need to change name of your chef?
DUARTE: My goal was “fine dining”. I need Messier Petit, not Mister Little to be a chef.
ZORINA: Another dining are not fine?
FABIAN: There are “fine dining”, “casual dining”, “self-service”, “drive-in”.
    DUARTE: Very good, officer.
    FABIAN: Thank you.
DUARTE: Dreaming of opening a restaurant.
FABIAN: Not whole life to police. I now make research.
DUARTE: Begin with bar to policemen.
    FABIAN: French cabaret style.
    DUARTE: Broaden horizons.
    FABIAN: I try.
ZORINA: About name of your restaurant... “Forty-four teapots.”
DUARTE: “What’s in a name? That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet” Romeo and Juliet.
    FABIAN: Why teapots?
DUARTE: Gave my own name is not what I wanted. Give name of chef is difficult, after s/he leave, it left with them. Collection of teapots is beautiful and could be removed any damaged item. Sometimes we show them to special clients. Just keep the same quantity, that’s all. You can’t forget it.
FABIAN: But in collection also are few coffee-pots!
DUARTE: Not everyone are such attentive, officer.
FABIAN: Could Manville Little plan to open new, own place.
DUARTE: As far as I know, no.
    ZORINA: Why?
DUARTE: He hasn’t enough money. All the time. He spend income on ingredients to try new dish. Food could be really expensive. Before his death, he run from his previous flat without payment. Owner phoned to him. He even bothered me.
    ZORINA: Could you suspect him?
DUARTE: Flat owner? He need a money, not a body.
FABIAN: He could return all from bank.
DUARTE: Zero was in bank. I told you.
ZORINA: Did your chef de cuisine want to create something special, if spend so much money on research?
DUARTE: He understand who he really was, he hadn’t dreams of Antonin the Prodigy, but believed that cooking is art, which he could do on daily basic.
    ZORINA: Why walk-in refrigerator?
DUARTE: To separate it from ovens.
    FABIAN: Really?
DUARTE: A lot of different boxes, where to storage. Not opened every second door. I can’t chose one oven, so I choose one big refrigerator.
    FABIAN: I see.
DUARTE: Everything will came with own experience, you have to listen advices, but important is own choice.
ZORINA: Pause in training our future restaurant owner.
DUARTE: Do you have more questions to me?
ZORINA: Why you don’t offer a breakfast?
DUARTE: I’m lazy person, officer, don’t like to get up early.
FABIAN: That’s a lot of storage place to all that eggs.
    ZORINA: Sorry, eggs?
DUARTE: You are good in theory.
    FABIAN: I try.
ZORINA: Why you need so many people if your menu is two pages?
DUARTE: My stuff is abrupt system from “real” restaurant. I don’t want to have a hundred page book for client’s reading. They know what they could eat in my house. They eat it. The same with wine, only which is support every dish. No waste and spoil food, all is in work. Less place to storage it, more area for tables.
FABIAN: Can I work for you as tournant?
DUARTE: Solve the murder and we’ll talk.
FABIAN: Thank you, thank you. Sorry, officer Dixon.
ZORINA: Could we talk with your personnel?
DUARTE: Of course, they all wait for it.
ZORINA: Wonderful, they had enough time to make own predictions. From who you suggest to start?
    DUARTE: From Bruno, the butcher.
    FABIAN: Do you suspect him?
DUARTE: No, but his babysitter is ill today and old neighbour not the best solution, as far as I know. It will be better if he could return home.
ZORINA: You are attentive to another people’s problems.
DUARTE: It calls to be a human, officer Dixon.

    Duarte exits.

    Scene 14.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

ZORINA: Do you think he is our killer?
    FABIAN: Who? Boucher?
ZORINA: Duarte, owner. He insist of changing a name. It’s stupid.
FABIAN: It’s pen-name, cook used it in competitions.
    ZORINA: Oh, no. Yes!
    FABIAN: What?
    ZORINA: Name?
    FABIAN: Whose?
ZORINA: Yours, when you take part in kitchen competitions.
FABIAN: Culinary competitions of not professionals. Fabian Aller.
ZORINA: Hope only in free time.
FABIAN: I need a hobby. Where I create beauty of life, not dig in pain and mud.
ZORINA: Calm down, my intention was to ask you to make a dinner for me, as try. You have to had someone who will eat it.
FABIAN: With pleasure. At Sunday I am planning to make new cake: strawberries with sugar flower on it and...

    Scene 15.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enters Bruno.

BRUNO: Duarte told you about my problem.
ZORINA: It won’t take long. Did you kill chef de cuisine?
BRUNO: No. It’s because I’m butcher and know what to do with knives. It’s kitchen, everyone knew what to do with knives. Why I need to do it?
    FABIAN: You’ll tell us.
BRUNO: No reason. I never wanted to be a chef.
ZORINA: How long do you know owner of restaurant?
BRUNO: Ten or more years. Duarte is man with guitar. Indispensable person in every scuffle fight.
    FABIAN: What?
BRUNO: We worked at the same place in harbour. At that place maniac killed first victim.
ZORINA: Stabbed, like here? BRUNO: Strangled. It was a lot of conflicts of interests, tourists wanted to see a place, sailors to have a good dinner. Duarte is good in every fight. At free time he played to us on guitar. It’s the way how he creates a menu. Plays something, brain is working. When he opened this place, he asked me to be part of it. Broken bones need rest and I agreed.
ZORINA: I see. Who could kill chef de cuisine?
BRUNO: We talk about Manville, woman, jealous woman.
    ZORINA: Which one?
BRUNO: Any one. He was married. He had something with Tabitha, at previous work. Could I go?
FABIAN: Yes and call the... Tabitha...

    Bruno exits.

    Scene 16.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Quickly enters Tabitha.

TABITHA: Bruno told me, I’m main suspect. Listen to you, officers.
    ZORINA: Such easy?
TABITHA: Do you think I don’t know what you guess?
    FABIAN: Why not?
TABITHA: To have this place as chef de cuisine. Not all life be a saucier.
ZORINA: You know that’s a motive.
TABITHA: I never will do such thing to Duarte.
ZORINA: You could be jealous that Manville find another woman, not you.
TABITHA: It was long time ago. Foolishness. I prefer free man. I had amazing relationship with Manville’s wife.
FABIAN: Now he was in divorce.
TABITHA: I don’t care. I have another interest. But where times when I with Mary Little thought to buy semi-detached house and live as neighbours.
ZORINA: I didn’t get it, Tabitha, sorry.
TABITHA: Manville, his lies. I wanted only one thing as compensation for his falsehood, his head in my living room. To punch when I have bad days.
    FABIAN: And at good days?
TABITHA: In good days I don't remember about him.
ZORINA: You wanted to kill him.
TABITHA: I wanted to make him part of wall, still alive.
    FABIAN: I didn’t get it.
TABITHA: If we, with Mary, share one common wall... I’ll receive head, she will receive rest of body in her living room.
ZORINA: Solomon’s decision, I could say.
TABITHA: Yes. Each of us will receive most important part of him.
FABIAN: And you don’t need... How to say?
TABITHA: Officer, I’ll receive his head, Mary will receive his pockets, most attractive in him to her.
ZORINA: You still don’t confirm that wanted to kill him.
TABITHA: Not for a second! Could I go?
    ZORINA: Not so quickly.
FABIAN: Did you have work conflicts with victim?
    TABITHA: About what?
FABIAN: About menu. You could had own ideas.
TABITHA: I completely agree with ideas which proposed Duarte.
    ZORINA: Short menu.
TABITHA: Yes. Portion size encourages guest to order several items. All of them are combining. If you wish you could eat from first to last and it will be no harm to you. Duarte was working on menu for years. He needs a French name to attract clients.
    FABIAN: You didn’t like it.
TABITHA: I like when person don’t pretends. I knew him as Little, and when he became a Petite...
    ZORINA: Were you angry?
TABITHA: I predicted it never end good, like everything connected with Little. Now I could go?
    ZORINA: Another woman?
    TABITHA: Kim? I’ll call her.

    Tabitha exits.

    Scene 17.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

ZORINA: They behave like they wanted to get rid of us.
FABIAN: It all be easy, if our experts were on time.
ZORINA: Victim is in freezer, they have more important tasks to do.
FABIAN: Body is near food! Remember it. They are angry.
ZORINA: Meat was already there. They will wait.
    FABIAN: Officer Dixon!

    Scene 18.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enters Kim.

    KIM: I didn’t kill him.
ZORINA: At first, sit and listen to our questions.
KIM: I had a reason, but...
FABIAN: Breeze. You are a barman, bar-woman.
    KIM: Yes.
ZORINA: Which reason you had to kill him?
KIM: I was angry with him. He said that he needs my flat.
FABIAN: Could you explain to us?
KIM: Manville had debts everywhere, his ex-wife received all money, expensive lawyer. He said that didn’t love me, was with me because I live near restaurant. I didn’t kill him.
ZORINA: Where were you this morning?
KIM: Show my flat for women who were interested in rent rooms in my house.
    FABIAN: What for?
KIM: It’s a lot of money, and Manville’s behaviour. I believed that he’ll left me... so I need someone who will paid rent.
ZORINA: Professional reason, arguments you had with victim?
KIM: Every time. He said that I had to choose wine from another list than served on tables. But it was Duarte’s decision.

    Scene 19.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enters Duarte.

DUARTE: How long it will be? How you could suspect Tabitha?
ZORINA: She was connected with victim.
    DUARTE: Now she is mine.
FABIAN: She didn’t tell, you also.
DUARTE: You didn’t ask. Now Kim is in tears. Maybe you will ask a few person at once, it will be quickly.
ZORINA: To whom every time victim had claims?
    KIM: Yules. Every day.
DUARTE: She’s right. Now you will talk with our “Chef de Plunge”.
    ZORINA: Fine, we’ll wait.

    Fabian smiles.

    DUARTE: Go, Kim.

    Duarte and Kim exit.

    Scene 20.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enter Jessica, Rene and Alan.

ALAN: For how long we have to wait. Why such discrimination?
    ZORINA: Who are you?
JESSICA: If I’m a waiter, I have to wait quietly, like from client who never knows what to choose.
    RENE: Yes.
    FABIAN: You all are waiters.
    ALAN: I’m tournant, officer.
ZORINA: Good to you. Someone of you killed Manville?
RENE: He wasn’t an easy man, but everyone else not better.
JESSICA: Yes. He could scream, argue, but never bit with towel.
ZORINA: It’s in style of Duarte.
JESSICA: No, it was on my previous work.
FABIAN: Can you tell something important for investigation?
    ALAN: Nothing.
ZORINA: Why you came here with such a hurry?
RENE: To be equal with all stuff. No matter which is our position...
ZORINA: Thank you all, we’ll talk to you later.

    Jessica, Rene and Alan exit.

    Scene 21.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

ZORINA: Rebellion for nothing. How you could dream to live such life?
FABIAN: Police work is better, Zorina?
ZORINA: Here I know what to do. I am not such stupid and can see difference between salt and sugar. But this life, all day near oven, to cook not for family, I don’t know.
    FABIAN: It’s passion.

    Scene 22.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enters Yules.

YULES: You want to see me. I’m Yules.
    ZORINA: Chef de Plunge.
    YULES: Dishwasher, if you please.
    ZORINA: But...
FABIAN: Officer Dixon didn’t plan to joke. Plongeur or dishwasher, we remember.
    YULES: What do you want?
ZORINA: Victim wasn’t satisfied with your work?
YULES: I already told, were problems with dishwasher, not my fault. I do nothing. Alan was fired, not me.
    ZORINA: Alan?
YULES: He didn’t agree to cut a meat. Manville could did all kitchen work and such behaviour... Better to talk with Alan, not my fault.
ZORINA: Stop moan. We’ll ask him. Now call a cashier. Is it clear?
    YULES: Yes. But Alan was...
    FABIAN: Hurry, please.

    Yules exits.

    Scene 23.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

ZORINA: This is reason for such rebellion, performance for us. Alan is good suspect. Such a temper. But at first we need to know about money. Could Manville Little stole from restaurant?
    FABIAN: Now we’ll find out.

    Scene 24.

    flavour-of-crime-play-by-Kateryna-Aksonova

    Enters Valerie.

VALERIE: Money are on place! And you think that’s prove that killer is someone from us, not for cash.
    FABIAN: If it was robbery...
VALERIE: I understand, someone could take money. If all knew a code to safe. Oh God, everyone knew. It’s day when this restaurant was opened. Everyone knew it. And most of payment only on credit cards, even tips. New style of life, officer Dixon.
    ZORINA: Are you finished?
